Provati Insurance IPO lottery draw Dec 15
The IPO lottery draw of Provati Insurance Limited will be held on December 15 subject to approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company sources said.
The initial public offering (IPO) of the company received an overwhelming response from the applicants, who deposited more than Tk 5.06 billion (506 crore), 56.23 times the value of the total IPO shares worth Tk 90 million (9 crore) on offer for subscription.
The refund warrants of the unsuccessful applicants will be sent back to their respective bank accounts during December 18 to 23 from Dhaka Zilla Krira Sangstha and Motijheel AGB Colony Community Centre, the company sources told the FE.
"Provati Insurance saw the second such rush for IPO subscription after Grameenphone. The market lot of Provati was suitable for the subscribers, if their capability is taken into account. This is the main reason of the overwhelming response of the applicants," Mohsin Reza, office secretary of Provati's issue manager AAA Consultants & Financial Advisers Limited, told the FE.
The face value of a share is Tk 100 and the market lot contains 50 shares. The company takes no premium.
According to the prospectus of the company, its earning per share (EPS) and net asset value (NAV) per share were Tk 20.29 and Tk 176.29 respectively as of December 31, 2008. Its paid-up capital is Tk 150 million (15 crore).

This year, 55,000 students will be awarded scholarships for outstanding performance but students sitting for the Ebtedae Completion Examination will not receive any scholarships.
The primary and the mass education minister Md Afsarul Amin told reporters at his office on Sunday that 2,157,907 primary students and 331,133 Ebtedae students will sit for the exams. Only about 4049 candidates will take the English version.
Of the 6,000 centres, seven are outside Bangladesh — Riyadh, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Tripoli, Singapore and Berlin. Of all the centres, 166 have been identified as 'remote.' The remote centres do not have any place nearby to securely store questions. So in this case the exam papers will be kept in banks instead.
The total number of candidates in 2009 was 1,979,895. Among them, 92 percent appeared for the exam and 88.84 percent passed successfully. The number of exam centres was 5357 (five of them abroad).

Amin says, "The increasing number of candidates suggests that the failing students from last year are retaking the exam."Primary Education Terminal Examination under all the education boards of the country begins on November 23 for a second time since the introduction of this public exam. Primary Exam Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Amin unveiled all preparations for a smooth holding of the exam while addressing a press conference at the ministry Sunday. “The government and all education boards have completed all-out preparations for holding the examinations in a congenial and peaceful atmosphere,” he told reporters. Sources said this year a total of 215,715 students have registered for sitting the primary school terminal exams and 331,133 for primary-equivalent ebtadae exams. The examinations will be held in 6,000 centers across the country and seven centres abroad. As per schedule, examinations for six subjects will be held in six days up to November 29, with a break on November 26 for weekend holiday. The minister hinted that the results of the examinations would be published in-between December 22 and December 27. Replying to a question, the minister said, “Identifying the problems faced at the first time, the government has remedied those ahead of this (second) examination.” Out of the total examinees, 55,000 will get scholarships “on the basis of merit”, the minister also disclosed at the news conference to boost up the students’ morale for cutting a good figure in the examinations.
